The title panel can be a great way to do something new with the character making surreal..whacky..and unusual images. A very creative concept.

I also like the cartoony feel in the new strip..and it can get away with more extreem action and slapstick.

Buy the Beano and see what you've been missing..

Just a side note the new Dandy has got every strip with a title panel to play with with which is good news indeed..

John Geering's Sparky comic title panels for Puss and Boots

Title panels give you a chance to try different things with your characters...seeing them as different objects for example is funny to see..











They also make nice posters..

Albert Holroyd black humour title panels for Thingummy Blob

From Sparky in the later years..mid 70's.



It is almost worse the act the proffessor is doing...he looks very innocent and cute..
These do remind me of Mad magazine.







Great cross hatching penwork Albert has...makes the object different to each other and more solid.

The Sparky People title panels with the office cat!

The later years of Sparky comic sure did take the title panels seriously and were often different each week.


The Sparky People used the office cat in the titles or on the top of the page...normally reporting on this weeks story. Also the lettering was different each time.

The Power comics 1960's title panels

A nice fun one...don't know if this one was different every week...I don't have many Power comics due to the expense and not from that era.



Mike Higgs drew different title panels with the characters who are in this weeks story.


Nice misty effect...it sets up the tone of the strip.





Leo Baxendale did some very busy mastheads...fab stuff...teachers smoke making the letters was funny..and the great fights in The Swots and the Blots.




Wacker had a different panel each week..





Lovely title panels...great lettering as it creeps arounds





Ken Reid did some wonderful title panels..the Frankie one with the eyeball is creepy..and the Nervs crawling all over him and drilling his nose!!

Late 50's and 1960's Beano fun logo mastheads

A nice logo by Dudley D. Watkins. Has some echos to the new Lord Snooty the Third logo by Nigel P.



I like this one a lot by Leo..:)






Leo Baxendale has of course done some very good logos..mastheads..



Jim Petrie did some great logos different every week as well..sometimes the logo blended into the background of the picture.



A lovely fat horse..


Davy Law did some nice logos changing every week...this is when the logo showed a bit of the story.









Ron Spencer has done some super Little Plum logos.









David Sutherland has done some wonderful Bash Street logos and still drawing a different one today. The king of logos!!




Always liked the spinning top logo...










The Three Bears had some very memorable logos..maybe its because it made you hungry...drawn with relish by Bob McGrath.

What is fun about logo mastheads is it gives the artist a chance to be surreal...wacky..fun..
Maybe Todays Beano can bring back some mastheads fun...Ball Boy...Minnie the Minx..for example look a bit samey and could do with a change.
Lord Snooty the Third is good...Johnny Bean and of course Fred's Bed..
The Bash Street kids has the best logos in The Beano.
