My Poster cartoons when I was young..1986-87

These last two were inspired by a Beezer annual 1983..

I was born in 1974..so you can work out the age I did these..:)
Was very inspired by early 1970's Beano comic annual covers which were painted loved the 1972..and when the best of Beezer came out with those amazing Banana Bunch poster pages by Leo Baxendale..also my Dad who did busy picture cartoon scenes..

This all lead to my creation The Giggle Gang..which I'll put up next time..

Three Cool cats poster by me part 2

I've never been good at lettering...its hard to draw straight...curve lines without wobbling...so here is my second version! I've used a computer font..
I think it looks smarter now.


Also changed my Traffic light one..the circles and the red and green men look better. Also the light grey shows off the traffic light better than black.



I've changed the through the tulips wording.lots of people couldn't read it...changed the feet.got rid of the toe nails.more abstract now...moved the bee...
looks a lot better..

I saw an exhibition at Brighton of this inspired new work based on the 60's modern cartoons...like UPA.
Derek has worked in animation like the Power puff girls. I like his work a lot...really inspired me to have a go go myself!!

Its an old joke done in a new way..

New cartoon and Jackie Edward Oliver:))

Jack drew this...if you look carefully you can see his logos drawn in a kiddy fashion..e.g the worm number 5, the warthog number 3, Abolish T Tuseday in kids spelling number 7, the box with handle number 9, ACME number 8, and even a childish signature ..Jackie Edward Oliver in the last panel..not Jack.......it really made me smile seeing this again today. From Whoopee!! Christmas 1984 my era..:)

New one drawn today.....I tried to get a neon effect on the background board of the ball ramming the skittle. Also like the bowler Lion t.shirt..

The success of the flew market selling my cartoon cards has really got me drawing again...:)

..went well selling my cartoon cards I've done..I made £66! Its nice to think of my work being enjoyed in different homes.

When a cartoon doesn't work...fix it!!

These two jokes I showed to lots of people.......many of them didn't get the joke!! Some did after a long time. So now I've had another go at trying to make the joke work more quickly and clearer.



A lot of people didn't realise that it was a empty Tomato plant walking back to the greenhouse. Also that he threw tomatoes at a terrible play. So I've added two remaining tomatoes to the plant...also a loose one on the grass to indicate they came off him. Hopefully the joke is now clearer.


For this one I was trying to show how there act for the talent scout was too easy, its just cans piled up. Just by adding the word Acrobats to his desk...showing what talent he is looking at will again make the joke work.

If you see people struggling with one of your cartoons...change it...make it clearer.

Great Phil that you can pop down to see me at the Woking craft fair. Its the building in the park next to the sports centre on the right. I'm a bit nervous. But once I relax I'll be cracking jokes and begging people to buy in know time..does this sells tactic work:)

Cartoon time

I have a craft fair coming up at Woking sport centre Sunday 12th October.

I'll be selling my cartoon cards like the ones above for 1 pound 25p. Its the first time I've done a proper fair so hope I can break even on the cost of the stall (which costs 25 pounds). So I'll be working hard on my cartoons from now on. So expect to see lots here on the blog.
Aim to do at least six cartoons a week.
Some will be ones which I've spruced up which you've seen at my main website.

I'm having to recolour them as I saved the work as a JPEG and its all badly pixalated. So redoing them and saving as a TIFF. Annoying But sometimes you learn the hard way.

Cartoon time the request is done! Dragons and Castles

Spy asked me for a dragon,,,knights...castles theme cartoon. The Dragon kissing one is not new...But is now spruced up. The Bouncy castle one I had drawn a while back But hadn't finished it...so glad it is done and ready to be sold as a card.

I made 70 pounds last month on my cards. 1 pound 25p each so this has been a big success. Already this Month made 12 pounds. Please email me if you want to buy some cards from me. 5 pounds for 4 cards...10 pounds for 8 cards. Very cheap! But different to anything you'll see in the shops. Clever humour!

Cartoon time From rough idea to finish piece

How I draw cartoons in different stages. First the brain storming...any idea is jotted down even if it won't be used. I often do little rough sketches I don't often write it. Just let your mind run wild...what can a hook do..a line...a fish...?














Next I choose the best jokes and draw it up here in pencil. I use a rubber to change things around. Sometimes I have to start again from the beginning if there is too much to rub out. As I don't want to smudge the paper too much. When I'm happy it will reach this stage.

At this stage changes can still happen. The cooker switch I want to change to show its on. The hat the fish hangs up will be retouched by a mouse as I didn't draw it big enough. The cooker was made less wider to show space between this and the suitcase. The rings on the cooker will be moved by mouse to line it up more. The wording for I like it well done will be moved closer together. The lines and wording will be thickened up by clicking on it with black. I draw with a thin pen which I prefer though the line can be too thin.



I'll show the next stage shortly. When the pen line and changes are done and is ready for colouring.

I try and make the colours show up, not too dark, so the line or drawing don't get lost. Also balancing the colours...e.g orange, brown on left side and right side.
So heres Fishy Tales 2.
